KAI plans to significantly reduce the headway on the Rangkas Bitung Green Line from 10-15 minutes to just 4-5 minutes. Commuters have expressed strong support for the initiative, which aims to alleviate overcrowding and improve service reliability.

KAI is set to reduce the arrival headway for the Rangkas Bitung
(Green Line) KRL route, shortening the current 10-15 minute interval to
just 4-5 minutes. Commuters (Anker) have reacted positively to the
plan.

“I am very happy,” said Auliya (26) at Tanah Abang Station, Central
Jakarta, on Saturday (26/9/2026). Auliya hopes this reduction will
decrease overcrowding and the intense pushing during train arrivals. She
noted that shorter headways would provide more options for passengers,
preventing them from being focused on a single train.

“Usually, because we have to wait over 10 minutes for each train,
passengers pile up and it becomes very crowded. Especially at Rawa Buntu
and Sudimara, the crowds are overwhelming. If trains come more
frequently and carriages are increased, the crowding will surely
decrease,” she said.

Auliya admitted she often delays her journey home to avoid the
congestion at Tanah Abang Station. She expressed hope that the plan will
be realised.

Another commuter, Hidayat (29), described commuting on the Green Line
during rush hour as a test of courage and physical endurance, noting
that trains from the Rangkas Bitung direction are always full. “In my
experience using the KRL on the Green Line, if you miss a train and the
doors have just closed, you might wait up to 15 minutes,” said
Hidayat.

“During the 6-8 AM peak hour, it feels like a physical test. It is
even worse if the next train from Rangkas Bitung is already full and you
have to prepare to squeeze in,” he added.

Hidayat also welcomed the plan to reduce headway, believing it could
speed up his commute. “If the maximum waiting time is reduced to 5
minutes, it will be great as it can speed up our journey to work. If a
train is already overcrowded, we can choose to wait since the next one
will arrive in less than 5 minutes. It would provide peace of mind,” he
remarked.

Syahrul (30), another commuter, also agreed with the plan to reduce
headway to mitigate passenger accumulation. He admitted to feeling
exhausted by the daily struggle of overcrowding during his commute. “I
strongly agree with this plan. Reducing the interval and adding
carriages will reduce the density inside the trains. Honestly, as a
Green Line user, it is exhausting to deal with the crowding every day
going to and from work,” said Syahrul.

Previously, during a Hearing (RDP) with Commission VI of the DPR on
Wednesday (23/9/2026), the President Director of KAI, Bobby Rasyidin,
presented plans to improve facilities and infrastructure to accommodate
the 1.1 million daily KRL Jabodetabek passengers.

“For the direction towards Rangkas, we will also increase and improve
the signalling so that the current 10-15 minute headway will be
shortened to 4 or 5 minutes, moving from the current SF12 capacity,”
Bobby stated during the meeting.

He noted that for the Rangkas Bitung Green Line, KAI has begun
installing five traction substations. KAI aims that by 2027, the entire
Rangkas Bitung line will be serviced by 12-carriage train sets.

“The infrastructure ‘quick win’ is for 2026. For the Rangkas Bitung
Green Line, we are starting to install five traction substations this
year and upgrading nine others, so that by the first semester of 2027,
the entire Green Line can be serviced by SF12 sets,” he concluded.
",
