        "content": "<p>Community health<\/p>\n<p>From Republika<\/p>\n<p>The government has declared the national health vision under <br>\nthe name of &quot;Indonesia Sehat 2010&quot; (Healthy Indonesia 2010) but <br>\nthis will remain just a hope, a reason why Health Minister Ahmad <br>\nSujudi has said it will be very difficult to empower the <br>\ncommunity in the health sector under the national health system.<\/p>\n<p>Efforts have been made to improve public health since 1982 but <br>\nIndonesia is at present ranked 106th of a total of 191 member <br>\ncountries of WHO in terms of the achievements of the goal of the <br>\nnational health system.<\/p>\n<p>Only some 30 percent of Indonesians have enjoyed the community <br>\nhealth center services while only about 2.2 percent of the <br>\ncountry&apos;s gross domestic product has been allocated for health <br>\nfunding. The WHO, meanwhile, has set this figure at a minimum of <br>\n5 percent.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of epidemiology, contagious diseases like malaria and <br>\ndiarrhea mixed with vomiting and smallpox are still posing a big <br>\nproblem. Non-contagious diseases like heart failure, hypertension <br>\nand diabetes (illnesses related to over-nutrition) and cancer, <br>\nthe Parkinson disease and other degenerative illnesses have shown <br>\nan uptrend. To make matters worse, drug abuse is still rampant.<\/p>\n<p>There is great pessimism, therefore, that Indonesia will ever <br>\nbecome a healthy nation by 2010.
