Communism still a threat<\/p>\n
It was only to be expected that the release of Soebandrio,
\nOmar Dhani and Soetarto would lead to the venting of appeals and
\nviews involving the various aspects of the 1965 communist coup
\nattempt. With regard to the personalities who were involved in
\nthe attempt, it is logical that their release has given ground
\nfor appeals to pardon other offenders as well, particularly by
\nallowing those who have fled abroad to return home.<\/p>\n
However, there is a fundamental difference between
\nSoebandrio's case and those who now live abroad. Soebandrio and
\nhis associates have received their lawful punishment, while those
\nwho live abroad have never been tried.<\/p>\n
We know that with the collapse of communism in the Soviet
\nUnion and in Eastern Europe, communist powers are virtually no
\nlonger a threat. However, the perpetuation in China of communism,
\nalthough with a different look, could at least morally encourage
\nthose who hanker for the advent of a revamped Old Order as an
\nalternative to the present New Order. It is our impression that a
\nfew tokens pointing in that direction are at present already
\ndiscernible.<\/p>\n
It is our opinion that the only way to forestall such a
\npossibility is by ensuring a faithful and consistent
\nimplementation of Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution.<\/p>\n
