        "content": "<p>Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Minister of Communications and Digital\n(Menkomdigi), Meutya Hafid, has provided the latest update on the fate\nof Wikipedia in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>Menkomdigi stated that a meeting between the government and Wikipedia\nrepresentatives will take place today, Thursday (23\/4).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere will be a summons issued tomorrow,\u201d Meutya said during a press\nconference at the Ministry of Komdigi office on Wednesday\n(22\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Meutya indicated that the process is still ongoing. \u201cWe\u2019ll provide an\nupdate later,\u201d she said briefly.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the Ministry of Communications and Digital (Komdigi)\nissued an ultimatum to the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit\norganisation that operates the online encyclopaedia Wikipedia, among\nothers.<\/p>\n<p>Komdigi demanded that they complete the registration process as a\nPenyelenggara Sistem Elektronik (PSE). If not, the Wikipedia website\nfaces the threat of being blocked.<\/p>\n<p>The Wikimedia Foundation was given 7 working days to register.\nDirector General of Digital Space Supervision Alexander Sabar assured\nthat the ministry would not hesitate to impose sanctions, as the given\ntimeframe was already sufficiently long.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Komdigi had notified Wikimedia to register since 14\nNovember 2025. However, they subsequently requested an extension, and to\nthis day, the registration obligation has not been fulfilled.<\/p>\n<p>In the latest extension of 7 days, the Wikimedia Foundation is\nexpected to promptly complete the PSE registration process in accordance\nwith applicable regulations. If there is still no compliance with\nIndonesian law, we will take firm action in the form of blocking,\u201d Alex\nemphasised, quoted from his official statement on Friday (17\/4).<\/p>\n<p>The blockade will be imposed on Wikimedia services. Not only\nWikipedia, but the impact of this policy will also apply to Wikimedia\nCommons.<\/p>\n<p>Platforms operating in Indonesia are required to register as PSE.\nThese rules are outlined in Minister of Communication and Informatics\nRegulation No.\u00a05 of 2020 on Private Scope Electronic System Operators,\nincluding sanctions for non-compliant parties ranging from written\nwarnings to service blockades.<\/p>\n<p>PSE registration is carried out free of charge and is applied\nequally, whether for for-profit or non-profit platforms.<\/p>",
