        "content": "<p>Communal brawls claim two lives<\/p>\n<p>PADANG, West Sumatra (JP): Fierce communal clashes separately<br>\nerupted in two regencies of Mentawai and Sijunjung in West<br>\nSumatra province on Monday during which two people were burned to<br>\ndeath, two others were seriously injured, and seven houses were<br>\ntorched.<\/p>\n<p>Mentawai regent Antonius Saleleubaja confirmed that the<br>\nincident took place in Sirilogui village in North Siberut<br>\ndistrict, saying it was triggered by growing rumors about alleged<br>\nblack magic practitioners.<\/p>\n<p>A mob accused Krisman, 22, and his spiritual teacher Pinda,<br>\n60, of practicing black magic and burned houses belonging to them<br>\nand their relatives. Pinda was burned alive inside his house<br>\nwhile Krisman and his family managed to flee from the people and<br>\ntemporarily sought refugee at the local police post.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile in Sijunjung regency, a communal brawl was caused by<br>\nquarrels between seven commuters from South Sumatra&apos;s Musi Rawas<br>\narea and alleged thugs operating at the local Kiliran Jao bus<br>\nterminal.<\/p>\n<p>Witnesses said that one of the commuters was angered as his<br>\nhand was pulled by one of the thugs. He then slapped the thug on<br>\nthe face. The thug reported the incident to his group who then<br>\nmobbed the seven commuters. One of the commuters was burned alive<br>\nduring the brawl.<\/p>\n<p>West Sumatra Police Detective chief Sr. Comr. Octavianus Far<br>\nFar said that police had arrested three residents of Kiliran Jao<br>\nvillage.<\/p>\n<p>Separately in Ambon, Maluku province, at least eight people<br>\nwere killed and 17 others were injured when a group of heavily<br>\narmed people launched attacks here late on Sunday, officials said<br>\non Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Two of the fatalities were believed to be from the group that<br>\nlaunched the attacks at Soya Kecil, Belakang Soya and Karang<br>\nPanjang in Ambon.
