        "content": "<p>Committees for property rights bids<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The government has set up two committees to<br>\nexamine appeals filed by applicants whose requests for patents<br>\nand trademarks of their products have been rejected by the<br>\ndirectorate general of intellectual property rights of the<br>\nMinistry of Justice and Human Rights, an official said on<br>\nSaturday.<\/p>\n<p>Director-general of Intellectual Property Rights A. Zen Umar<br>\nPurba said in a statement that the two committees were the<br>\nCommittee for Appeal on Patent Rights application and the<br>\nCommittee for Appeal on Trademark Rights application.<\/p>\n<p>Purba said the two committees would start working since their<br>\nmembers were installed by Minister of Justice and Human Rights<br>\nYusril Ihza Mahendra earlier on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\"Their work is to observe the appeals filed by the applicants<br>\nfor patent rights and trademark rights and to review the decision<br>\nby the directorate general of intellectual property rights which<br>\nrejected their applications,\" Purba said in the statement, copies<br>\nof which was made available to the media on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The Committee for Appeal on Patent Rights applications is<br>\nchaired by Wiranto Arismunandar, former minister of education and<br>\nculture. He will be assisted by deputy chairman Goeswin Agoes and<br>\nmembers: Soegijardjo Soegijoko, Tati Latifah E.R. Mengko, J.H.<br>\nSimanjuntak and Ita Gambiro.<\/p>\n<p>The Committee for Appeal on Trademark Rights is led by former<br>\njustice J. Djohansjah, who will be assisted by deputy chairman H.<br>\nRobinson Saragih and members: Agustiar Anwar, Wiratmo Dianggoro<br>\nand Ismuantoro.<\/p>\n<p>The establishment of both committees was stipulated in the Law<br>\nNo. 13\/1997 on Patent Rights and the Law No. 14\/1997 on<br>\nTrademark.<\/p>\n<p>The statement also announced that starting from Jan. 1, 2001,<br>\nthe public can submit their applications for copyrights, patent<br>\nrights and trademarks to all regional offices of the directorate<br>\ngeneral.<\/p>\n<p>The rights of the applicants will be automatically protected<br>\nstarting from the date they file their applications, Purba said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the regional offices are also authorized to locally<br>\nregister the trademarks which have been registered overseas.<br>\n(bby)<\/p>",
