Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of House Commission XII of the\nIndonesian DPR, Bambang Haryadi, has asked the Ministry of\nEnvironment\/Environmental Control Agency (KLH\/BPLH) to report the\nsuspected manipulation of wastewater quality test results to the\npolice.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want this processed, reported to the National Police, and\nthoroughly investigated. Put it in the conclusions,\u201d said Bambang during\na hearing between the Environment Working Committee of DPR Commission\nXII and KLH\/BPLH at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta in the early\nhours of Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The request came after Deputy for Environmental Law Enforcement at\nKLH\/BPLH, Rizal Irawan, presented the results of field verification\nregarding the operations of Jababeka Industrial Estate Phase II.<\/p>\n
Rizal said his team found that a discharge pipe owned by PT Jababeka\nTbk, which is 36 years old, had not received routine maintenance for\nthree years since 2023.<\/p>\n
According to him, this condition did not comply with internal\nstandard operating procedures (SOP) requiring periodic maintenance every\nmonth at vulnerable points, including control manholes.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe implication is that a 36-year-old pipe without maintenance at\nvulnerable points and connection manholes will increase the risk of\nstructural failure and the potential for leaks or repeated pollution,\u201d\nsaid Rizal.<\/p>\n
In addition, KLH\/BPLH found indications of irregularities in changes\nto laboratory test results conducted by PT Media Lab on Jababeka\u2019s\nwastewater.<\/p>\n
According to Rizal, the initial report recorded a Chemical Oxygen\nDemand (COD) of 810 milligrams per litre (mg\/L), while the quality\nstandard is a maximum of 100 mg\/L.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) in the initial report\nwas recorded at 289 mg\/L, while the quality standard is a maximum of 20\nmg\/L.<\/p>\n
However, roughly a week later, PT Media Lab issued a revision letter\nchanging the COD test result to 63 mg\/L and the BOD to 19 mg\/L, bringing\nboth below the quality standards.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have carried out field verification for years, and there has\nnever been a case of a revision issued within a gap of about a week.\nThere is an indication that it was done so everything falls below the\nquality standards,\u201d said Rizal.<\/p>\n
In response to these findings, Bambang suspected that the change in\nlaboratory test results was an attempt to make the company appear to\ncomply with quality standards.<\/p>\n
He asked KLH\/BPLH to follow up on the suspicion and report it to the\npolice for investigation.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf even the Deputy did not believe it, let alone the DPR? We want\nthis processed, reported to the National Police, and thoroughly\ninvestigated,\u201d said Bambang.<\/p>\n
