        "content": "<p>JAKARTA - Deputy Chair of Commission X of the House of\nRepresentatives, MY Esti Wijayanti, has requested support for victims of\nsexual harassment perpetrated by 16 students at the University of\nIndonesia\u2019s Faculty of Law (FH UI). The politician from the Indonesian\nDemocratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) also reminded of the importance of\nmaintaining the victims\u2019 confidentiality in the case. \u201cThe handling of\nthe case must proceed fairly. There needs to be support for the victims,\nincluding psychological, legal, and academic assistance so that those\nexperiencing trauma can recover quickly,\u201d Esti stated in her remarks on\nThursday (16\/4\/2026). Esti emphasised that the alleged sexual harassment\nat FH UI is a serious issue impacting the victims. \u201cDo not normalise\nsexual harassment or violence in any form. Educational environments must\nhave zero tolerance for any acts of sexual violence,\u201d Esti said.\nAdditionally, she encouraged the use of Law Number 12 of 2022 on Sexual\nViolence Crimes (TPKS) in the sexual harassment case involving the 16 UI\nFaculty of Law students. \u201cWhat the perpetrators have done meets the\nelements of sexual violence under the TPKS Law. The perpetrators\nthemselves are law students who should be more sensitive and aware of\nthe legal consequences,\u201d Esti stated. Minister of Higher Education,\nScience, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) Brian Yuliarto has assured\nprotection for the victims of the sexual harassment involving FH UI\nstudents. The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology\n(Kemendiktisaintek) has also coordinated with UI authorities to monitor\nthe case. \u201cI have also coordinated with the Rector, and we are\ncontinuously monitoring the progress of this case handling, including\nensuring that the affected parties receive the protection and support\nthey deserve,\u201d Brian stated in his remarks on Wednesday (15\/4\/2026).\nBrian firmly stated that sexual harassment is a serious violation that\ndegrades human dignity. \u201cThe world of higher education or universities\nanywhere should be safe, dignified, and integrity-filled spaces for the\nentire academic community,\u201d Brian emphasised. Based on Ministry of\nEducation, Culture, Research, and Technology Regulation Number 55 of\n2024 on the Prevention and Handling of Violence in Higher Education\nEnvironments, every higher education institution is required to\nestablish a Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in\nHigher Education Environments (Satgas PPKPT). If a criminal act is\nfound, law enforcement will refer to Law Number 12 of 2022 on Sexual\nViolence Crimes in accordance with applicable provisions.<\/p>",
