The\ntourism sector is also expected to contribute more significantly to the\ncountry\u2019s foreign exchange earnings.<\/p>\n<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Deputy Chair of Commission VII of the\nIndonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Chusnunia Chalim, believes\nthat the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate has the potential to\nincrease international tourist arrivals and boost foreign exchange\nrevenue from the tourism sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA number of data points show that tourists from neighbouring\ncountries and the Asian region have experienced an increasing trend in\nrecent months. The tourism sector is also expected to be able to provide\na larger contribution to the state\u2019s foreign exchange earnings,\u201d\nChusnunia said in Jakarta on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate makes\ntravelling in Indonesia relatively cheaper for foreign tourists,\nespecially those using the US dollar or other strong currencies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen foreign tourists have greater purchasing power due to\nfavourable exchange rates, their spending on accommodation, culinary\nexperiences, entertainment, and local products tends to increase,\u201d she\nadded.<\/p>\n<p>She noted that increased tourist spending has the potential to boost\nforeign exchange from the tourism sector while simultaneously driving\nvarious supporting sectors, such as restaurants, local transport,\nsouvenir centres, creative economy players, and micro, small, and medium\nenterprises (MSMEs).<\/p>\n<p>However, she warned that the weakening rupiah also presents\nchallenges for businesses that still rely on imported goods.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA number of business actors who still depend on imported goods, such\nas premium foods, imported beverages, and certain hotel supplies,\ncontinue to face rising operational costs,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the current situation, all players in the tourism industry must\nremain optimistic about the opportunities arising amidst various global\nchallenges. We must work together to maintain the growth of the national\ntourism sector,\u201d Chusnunia concluded.<\/p>",
