Jakarta (ANTARA) - Commission IX of the Indonesian House of\nRepresentatives (DPR RI) has reached an agreement with the Ministry of\nPopulation and Family Development (Kemendukbangga)\/BKKBN RI regarding a\nproposed budget increase of Rp500 billion for the 2027 fiscal year,\nspecifically allocated for the procurement of contraceptive tools and\nmedicines (alokon).<\/p>\n
Speaking during a working meeting with Kemendukbangga at the\nParliament Complex in Jakarta on Thursday, the Deputy Chairman of\nCommission IX, Charles Honoris, stated that the procurement of\ncontraceptives is vital as it relates to population control, which\nrequires government attention to ensure a healthy population\nstructure.<\/p>\n
He also warned that the demographic bonus will not automatically\nbecome an advantage if the increase in the productive-age population is\nnot accompanied by the creation of productive human capital and\njobs.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a large workforce, but jobs are unavailable due to\ntechnological advancements; today, the industrial sector may no longer\nuse or is beginning to automate, reducing the need for manual labour,\nwhile the use of artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly\ndominant. Therefore, government policy must be truly precise,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Previously, during the meeting, the Deputy Chairman of Commission IX,\nYahya Zaini, noted that the 202lar budget for strategic activities of\nKemendukbangga\/BKKBN RI for 2027 only allocated Rp350 billion for\ncontraceptive procurement. In his view, the ideal budget for\ncontraceptives should range between Rp800 billion and Rp1 trillion.<\/p>\n
Similarly, the Deputy Chairman of Commission IX, Nihayatul Wafiroh,\nalso urged Kemendukbangga\/BKKBN RI to implement a budget increase of\nRp500 billion for contraceptive procurement. She assessed that the Rp350\nbillion allocation is inadequate, especially since no budget for\ncontraceptives is available for 2026 and there remains a high number of\nunintended pregnancies.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause we are the ones constantly conducting socialisation to the\ncommunity, our message has shifted from \u2018two children are enough\u2019 to\n\u2018two children are healthier\u2019. We are also thinking about how family\nplanning is one way to prevent stunting.
