Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR),\nHabiburokhman, has declared that the commission will oversee the case of\na child identified as NS, aged 12, who died allegedly from abuse by her\nstepmother in Sukabumi, West Java, through to trial proceedings.<\/p>\n
Commission III condemned the case. Habiburokhman recommended that the\nSukabumi Police charge the suspect under Article 76C in conjunction with\nArticle 80 of Law Number 35 of 2014 on Child Protection. \u201cThe maximum\nsentence is 15 years\u2019 imprisonment,\u201d Habiburokhman said in Jakarta on\nSunday, 22 February 2026.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, he urged the Sukabumi Police, as the investigating\nauthority, to thoroughly examine the acts committed against the victim.\nIf the abuse was found to be ongoing, he said, this would constitute an\naggravating factor for the perpetrator.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will continue to oversee this case through to trial so that the\ndeceased and her family receive justice,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The victim of the abuse by her stepmother died with bruising and burn\nwounds on her body. The victim had been living at a pesantren (Islamic\nboarding school) on a daily basis. However, at the time of the incident,\nthe victim was on leave in preparation for the beginning of the fasting\nmonth with her family.<\/p>\n
At that time, the victim\u2019s father, who was working in Sukabumi City,\nreceived a telephone call from his wife asking him to return home\nimmediately, claiming the victim had fallen ill.<\/p>\n
Upon the father\u2019s arrival home, the victim was rushed to Jampang\nKulon Hospital for medical treatment.
