        "content": "<p>JAKARTA \u2014 Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives\nconvened a public hearing regarding the death of Nizam Syafei, a child\nfrom Sukabumi, West Java, who is believed to have died as a result of\nabuse by his stepmother, at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan,\nCentral Jakarta, on Monday 2 March 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The hearing invited several parties, including the Sukabumi Police\nChief, Nizam\u2019s family, and his legal representatives.<\/p>\n<p>Upon opening the session, Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman\nexpressed condolences over Nizam\u2019s death.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the hearing was not intended to intervene in the\ninvestigation process, but rather to ensure the case was pursued in\naccordance with applicable law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on the facts that exist, so that the deceased can truly\nreceive justice,\u201d said the Gerindra Party politician.<\/p>\n<p>Habiburokhman also requested that the hearing be able to answer\npublic questions that had been submitted to Commission III.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding public suspicion that the perpetrator was not solely the\nstepmother, but that others were also involved\u2014either assisting in the\ncrime, committing the crime together, or allowing the crime to\noccur\u2014Habiburokhman raised concerns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on video recordings also received by Commission III, there are\nstrong indications of torture, abandonment, and neglect of the deceased.\nIt should be questioned why people around him remained silent whilst the\ndeceased was in critical condition, lying on the floor with thin\nbedding,\u201d Habiburokhman stated.<\/p>\n<p>When admitted to hospital, the victim\u2019s body was covered in bruises\nand blistering resembling burn wounds.<\/p>\n<p>Before his death, Nizam provided a statement to medical personnel and\npolice that was captured in a viral video. He claimed he was forced to\ndrink hot water by his stepmother.<\/p>\n<p>Autopsy results contradicted the perpetrator\u2019s alibi that the victim\nsuffered from leukaemia.<\/p>",
