Comic and music contest to be held<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Ministry of Education and Culture will hold
\na contest on comic strips and adaptation of poetry to music.<\/p>\n
Edy Sedyawaty, director general of culture of the ministry,
\ntold the press here yesterday that the contest, which will be
\nheld in Jakarta early November, aims at stimulating and
\nexpressing creative talents.<\/p>\n
She said the participation to the contest is only opened
\nyoung people.<\/p>\n
Fadjria Novari, head of the children and teenagers training
\nproject of the ministry, said that participants will be between
\n15 to 22 yeas of age for poetry and below 30 years for the comic
\nstrips competition.<\/p>\n
The theme for comic strips contest is people and environment,
\nshe said.<\/p>\n
According to Fadjria the members of the jury are still
\nselecting poems to be adapted to music.<\/p>\n
Edy said that children's capability to interpret symbolic
\ngestures develops since kindergarten.<\/p>\n
"Children's potential to express the meanings of poetry
\nstarts when they are four years old," she said.<\/p>\n
Taguan Harjo, a member of the jury, on the other hand said
\nthat young people's interest in reading now tends to decline due
\nto the presence of electronic media.<\/p>\n
Djokolelono, another member of the jury, said by writing poems
\nteenagers want to express themselves in different way, it depends
\non their interest.<\/p>\n
"They can express it trough poetry, painting, graffiti or even
\nrap music," he added.<\/p>\n
Fadjria said that the copy rights of comic strips and the
\nmusic contested belong to the author.<\/p>\n
The winning comic strips will be published by the ministry,
\nshe said.<\/p>\n
But, she said, the ministry will only publish it for the first
\nyear. "Afterwards the author can go to another publisher." (05)<\/p>",
