The Klungkung regency government has commenced repairs on the collapsed Getakan-Bakas road in Banjarangkan district, Bali, constructing a retaining wall to secure the vital link between two villages. The damage, caused by heavy rain in late May, had left half the road collapsed and raised safety concerns among residents and students. The work is funded through the public works department's routine maintenance budget and is intended as both an emergency and long-term measure.

The collapsed Getakan-Bakas road in Banjarangkan district, Klungkung,
Bali, has begun to be repaired. The Klungkung regency government is now
constructing a structural retaining wall (DPT) to secure the road
connecting the two villages, which previously collapsed due to heavy
rain.

Head of the Klungkung Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing and
Settlement Areas Agency (PUPRPKP), I Made Jati Laksana, said the repairs
are being carried out as both an emergency and long-term measure.

“Work began a week ago. We are carrying out structural retaining wall
works on the Getakan-Bakas section. This is to secure the road where the
embankment is unstable. If it is not addressed promptly, it is feared it
will affect public access,” Laksana said when confirmed by detikBali on
Sunday (6/9/2026).

He explained that the repair budget is drawn from the routine
maintenance funds of the Klungkung PUPRPKP agency.

“We have included this work in routine maintenance activities. So as
soon as there is damage or a vulnerable point, we address it immediately
so it does not worsen and disrupt residents’ mobility,” he added.

Workers are currently building the retaining wall structure on the
embankment side. Stone, steel and wooden formwork materials have been
installed for concreting. The target is for the work to be completed
soon so that residents’ activities can return to normal safely.

Previously, the condition of the Getakan-Bakas road had been
concerning. Heavy rain that fell across Klungkung regency on Tuesday
(26/5) caused half the road to collapse.

At the landslide point, the concrete road barrier posts were left
hanging over the embankment. Banjarangkan police at the time installed
warning signs, police tape and covered the landslide area with
tarpaulin.

The condition raised concerns among residents, particularly students.
Kadek Sugiarta (17), a student from Bakas village, said he was worried
every time he passed through.

“Many students from Bakas and other villages pass through here every
day to go to school in Smarapura. So if the road is like this, it could
be dangerous,” he said.

According to Sugiarta, the Getakan-Bakas route is the main route.
There is an alternative Bakas-Banjarangkan road, but the distance is
longer and involves a detour, making it inefficient for students. With
the construction of this retaining wall, it is hoped that the main
Getakan-Bakas route can be used safely again.
",
