Coffee meeting canceled<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A meeting of top robusta coffee producers
\nscheduled for today on the resort island of Bali has been
\ncanceled, an Indonesian official said yesterday.<\/p>\n
Paian Nainggolan, Indonesia's representative to the
\nAssociation of Coffee Producing Countries (ACPC), told Reuters
\nthe meeting was called off after Ivory Coast Commodities Minister
\nGuy-Alain Gauze informed organizers he could not attend.<\/p>\n
\"We were informed last night that Mr Gauze could not attend
\nthe meeting because of unavoidable circumstances,\" he said.<\/p>\n
\"So we (robusta producers) held an informal discussion on
\nTuesday night. We did not take any decision at the meeting since
\nit was informal and did not have an agenda,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He said the meeting did not discuss the sharing of export cuts
\ndecided on by the ATPC.<\/p>\n
But he said Brazil had proposed talks on the issue could be
\nheld during the International Coffee Organization (ICO) meeting
\nin May in London.<\/p>\n
\"There was no decision on the Brazilian proposal,\" he added.
\nThe ACPC decided at its meeting in Brazil on Jan. 23 to reduce
\nrobusta exports by one million 60-kg bags in the first half of
\nthis year. Indonesia has decided to reduce its exports by 150,000
\nbags in the period.<\/p>",
