Coal waste disposal is allegedly occurring carelessly in\nCikalongwetan District, West Bandung Regency (KBB), West Java. The\naccumulation of suspected coal waste poses a threat to residents\u2019\nhealth.<\/p>\n
Based on Republika\u2019s observations on Monday 9 March 2026, there were\ntwo dumping sites containing suspected combustion residue material,\nknown as fly ash and bottom ash (FABA), located in the Walini plantation\narea near the road connecting Mandalasari Village to Kanangasari,\nCikalongwetan District.<\/p>\n
The first location contained heaps of sacks filled with coal waste. A\nshort distance away, another pile of waste was wrapped in plastic. It\nwas in the form of black and blue-coloured clumps. An unpleasant odour\nwas immediately noticeable when attempting to approach one of the\ndumps.<\/p>\n
The coal waste triggers dust pollution as it becomes airborne when\nstruck by strong winds or when motor vehicles pass through. When rain\nfalls, the waste material is also carried by water onto roads and\nresidents\u2019 plantations as there are no barriers or filtering systems in\nplace. The location is not far from Cipularang Toll Road KM 106.<\/p>\n
\u201cIndeed it\u2019s been around for a while in Mandalasari, but the one in\nKanangasari seems to have appeared just four days ago,\u201d said Burhan (40\nyears old), a resident in the area.<\/p>\n
Burhan, who commutes daily from Kanangasari to Padalarang for work,\npasses through the road where the illegal coal waste dumping occurs. He\nhoped the government would take action to prevent negative impacts from\nspreading.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor me passing through here, the smell is unbearable. The liquid\nsometimes flows onto the road too.
