        "content": "<p>A coal-laden barge struck protective fenders on the Muara Sabak\nBridge in East Tanjungjabung Regency, Jambi, on Saturday 23 May at\napproximately 12.36 Western Indonesian Time. No fatalities were reported\nin the incident, though several bridge fender sections sustained damage\nfrom the collision.<\/p>\n<p>According to available information, the barge BG United Jaya 3062,\naccompanied by tugboat TB MBP 2022, was en route to Merak Port in Banten\nvia the eastern Sumatran coastal shipping lane when the incident\noccurred.<\/p>\n<p>East Tanjungjabung Regency Police Chief AKBP Ade Candra stated that\nthe barge involved had been secured and the case remained under\ninvestigation by the Satpolairud maritime police unit. \u201cThankfully there\nwere no casualties, and traffic access across the Muara Sabak Bridge\nspan remains safe for passage. The involved barge has been secured, and\nwe continue to conduct a standard investigation,\u201d Ade Candra said on\nSaturday evening.<\/p>\n<p>Tanjungjabung Timur Transportation Department Head Taufik Hidayat\nattributed the incident to suspected engine failure aboard the barge\nwhilst passing beneath the bridge. \u201cWhen the incident occurred, the coal\nbarge experienced engine trouble whilst passing under the bridge,\u201d\nHidayat stated.<\/p>\n<p>According to preliminary assessments, the collision resulted in three\nbridge support pillars being reported missing and multiple fender\nsections sustaining damage. The Muara Sabak Bridge, spanning 737 metres\nacross the Batanghari River, is a key landmark in East Tanjungjabung\nRegency and serves as an important transport link for the eastern\ncoastal region of Jambi.<\/p>",
