CMS Energy to invest $1b in Asia<\/p>\n
SINGAPORE (Reuter): CMS Energy Corporation plans to invest
\nover US$1 billion or a third of its capital expenses in the next
\nfive years in Asia, top company officials said yesterday.<\/p>\n
"Looking over the next five years, we would be in the position
\nto invest upwards of a billion in S.E. Asia. This is additional
\ninvestments to our existing ones," Victor Fryling, president of
\nCMS Energy told Reuters at an interview.<\/p>\n
Fryling is in Singapore for the official opening of CMS
\nregional office for Asian business development.<\/p>\n
"By the end of that period, Asia may represent about 20
\npercent of the total size of our company," Fryling said.<\/p>\n
Fryline said that over the next five years the company plans
\nto have stakes in various energy operations in the region,
\nencompassing electric power generation, oil and gas exploration
\nand production, natural gas pipelines and storage, electricity
\nmarketing and both electric and natural gas utility operations.<\/p>\n
CMS Energy currently has independent power generation as well
\nas oil and gas exploration and production activities in India,
\nthe Philippines, Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.
\nAccording to Fryling, the company is also pursuing international
\nnatural gas pipeline development opportunities in Southeast Asia.<\/p>\n
"The countries we are focusing at this time to expand our
\nbusiness include Australia, India, the Philippines, Thailand,
\nSingapore and Indonesia," David Weaver, vice president and
\nmanaging director of CMS Energy Asia Pe Ltd said.<\/p>\n
"It is our goal to seek opportunities where our significant
\nexperience and skills bring value, to develop strategic partners
\nto pursue investment opportunities and maximize our strength as a
\ntotal energy infrastructure company," Weaver added.<\/p>\n
CMS Energy Corporation has its world headquarters in Michigan,
\nthe United States, and is publicly traded on the New York Stock
\nExchange.<\/p>",
