        "content": "<p>Clinton assistant here for Jakarta-Arkansas synergy<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): An assistant to President Bill Clinton paid a<br>\ncourtesy call to President Soeharto yesterday evening during<br>\nwhich he discussed the progress of the sister state relationship<br>\nbetween the U.S. state of Arkansas and Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I&apos;m here in a personal capacity to discuss the sister state<br>\nrelationship between Jakarta and Arkansas,&quot; said Mark Grobmyer<br>\nafter meeting with President Soeharto at his residence on Jl.<br>\nCendana, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Accompanied by Jakarta Governor Surjadi Soedirdja, Grobmyer<br>\nsaid that Arkansas was looking at potential areas of cooperation<br>\nwith Jakarta in the economic, banking, electronic and cultural<br>\nfields.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Surjadi and Governor Jim Tucker in Seattle last<br>\nNovember signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) establishing<br>\nsister state relations between Jakarta and Arkansas. The signing<br>\nof the MOU was witnessed by both Soeharto and Clinton who was<br>\ngovernor of Arkansas prior to his election as president.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;My main objective in coming to Indonesia is to meet with the<br>\nGovernor of Jakarta and further discuss cooperation between<br>\nJakarta and Arkansas,&quot; Grobmyer explained.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The two have many opportunities in many areas, among them<br>\nbusiness, investment and education,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>At present cooperation arrangements exist between the Harapan<br>\nKita hospital and a children&apos;s hospital in Arkansas and research<br>\nwork between the faculties of medicine at the University of<br>\nIndonesia and the University of Arkansas.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Surjadi also asserted the importance of the<br>\ncooperation saying, &quot;Jakarta is looking for opportunities, and<br>\none of those opportunities is Arkansas.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to reporters, Grobmyer denied that he brought any<br>\nspecial message from President Clinton since his visit here is<br>\nstrictly in a private capacity.
