The East Jakarta Health Sub-department (Jaktim) has said that cleft\nlip and palate surgery can help restore children\u2019s self-confidence in\ntheir daily lives.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope that with the results of the cleft lip surgery at Ciracas\nRegional Hospital yesterday, the children can be more confident, not\nembarrassed in front of their peers, and that school and other\nactivities can run smoothly,\u201d said Head of the East Jakarta Health\nSub-department Arief Wahyudhy when contacted in Jakarta on Thursday.<\/p>\n
According to him, the surgery not only aims to improve the child\u2019s\nphysical condition but also supports their growth and development, which\naffects the child\u2019s mental state in their surrounding environment.<\/p>\n
In addition, the surgical procedure is also a form of health service\nto help communities who have children or family members with cleft lip\nconditions.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn order to help our communities who have family members, perhaps\nthose with concerns, whose children or relatives suffer from cleft lip,\nAlhamdulillah, the cleft lip and palate surgery activity could be\ncarried out,\u201d said Arief.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, the cleft lip surgery at Ciracas Regional Hospital\nis also part of efforts to expand access to health services for the\npeople of East Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Arief said the activity was the result of a collaboration between the\nIndonesian Plastic Surgery Association and the Smile Train\nFoundation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a good collaboration between the government, the private\nsector and the community in order to expand access to health services,\u201d\nsaid Arief.<\/p>\n
He hopes that similar collaborations will continue to be developed so\nthat health services can reach the community more broadly.<\/p>\n
He revealed that the relatively large population of East Jakarta\nmeans the number of cases in the area is likely to be quite high\ncompared to other regions.<\/p>\n
Previously, 21 children underwent cleft lip and palate surgery in a\nsocial service activity at Ciracas Regional Hospital, Cibubur, East\nJakarta, on Wednesday (19\/8).<\/p>\n
Of the 21 children who registered, not all participants could\nimmediately undergo the medical procedure. Each prospective patient had\nto go through a screening process to ensure their health condition and\neligibility for surgery.<\/p>\n
