Clashes damage houses, ships<\/p>\n

Separate communal clashes on Friday and Saturday in South
\nSulawesi and Central Java left several people injured and dozens
\nof houses and ships damaged.<\/p>\n
The clash in North Luwu regency, South Sulawesi, was triggered
\nby news that Cukki, 26, a resident of To'Kuning subdistrict in
\nneighboring Luwu regency, had been killed by a group of young
\npeople from Saura subdistrict, North Luwu regency. Cukki was
\napparently murdered after hitting Aco, a resident of Saura
\nsubdistrict.<\/p>\n
Cukki's death sparked anger among To'Kuning residents, who
\ndescended on Saura subdistrict early on Friday morning seeking
\nrevenge.<\/p>\n
Dozens of To'Kuning residents, armed with sharp weapons, went
\non a rampage in Saura subdistrict.<\/p>\n
Several Saura residents were injured in the attack and 14
\nhouses sustained major damage. Police officers quickly arrived on
\nthe scene and restored order.<\/p>\n
Luwu Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Novi Ermansyah said police
\nwere now in control of the area and that the situation was
\nreturning to normal.<\/p>\n
Officers are searching for suspects in To'Kuning subdistrict,
\nsaid Novi.<\/p>\n
Separately, in Demak regency, Central Java, dozens of
\nresidents of Morodemak subdistrict attacked residents of the
\nneighboring subdistrict of Margolinduk, injuring several people
\nand damaging 16 houses and several ships.<\/p>\n
The attack followed a fight between youths from the two
\nsubdistricts. A young man from Morodemak subdistrict was beaten
\nby several youths from Margolinduk subdistrict who spotted him
\ntalking to a girl from their neighborhood.<\/p>\n
The young man was repeatedly punched but was able to flee the
\nscene. He then returned to his neighborhood and gathered his
\nfriends for a revenge attack.<\/p>\n
After searching in vain for the people responsible for the
\nassault, the Morodemak youths went on the rampage in Margolinduk
\nsubdistrict, throwing stones and attacking 16 houses. They also
\ndamaged several ships belonging to local residents.<\/p>\n
Police officers quickly arrived in the subdistrict and calmed
\ndown the youths, Antara reported.<\/p>",
