        "content": "<p>Clashes damage houses, ships<\/p>\n<p>Andi Hajramurni, The Jakarta Post\/Makassar<\/p>\n<p>Separate communal clashes on Friday and Saturday in South<br>\nSulawesi and Central Java left several people injured and dozens<br>\nof houses and ships damaged.<\/p>\n<p>The clash in North Luwu regency, South Sulawesi, was triggered<br>\nby news that Cukki, 26, a resident of To&apos;Kuning subdistrict in<br>\nneighboring Luwu regency, had been killed by a group of young<br>\npeople from Saura subdistrict, North Luwu regency. Cukki was<br>\napparently murdered after hitting Aco, a resident of Saura<br>\nsubdistrict.<\/p>\n<p>Cukki&apos;s death sparked anger among To&apos;Kuning residents, who<br>\ndescended on Saura subdistrict early on Friday morning seeking<br>\nrevenge.<\/p>\n<p>Dozens of To&apos;Kuning residents, armed with sharp weapons, went<br>\non a rampage in Saura subdistrict.<\/p>\n<p>Several Saura residents were injured in the attack and 14<br>\nhouses sustained major damage. Police officers quickly arrived on<br>\nthe scene and restored order.<\/p>\n<p>Luwu Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Novi Ermansyah said police<br>\nwere now in control of the area and that the situation was<br>\nreturning to normal.<\/p>\n<p>Officers are searching for suspects in To&apos;Kuning subdistrict,<br>\nsaid Novi.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, in Demak regency, Central Java, dozens of<br>\nresidents of Morodemak subdistrict attacked residents of the<br>\nneighboring subdistrict of Margolinduk, injuring several people<br>\nand damaging 16 houses and several ships.<\/p>\n<p>The attack followed a fight between youths from the two<br>\nsubdistricts. A young man from Morodemak subdistrict was beaten<br>\nby several youths from Margolinduk subdistrict who spotted him<br>\ntalking to a girl from their neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p>The young man was repeatedly punched but was able to flee the<br>\nscene. He then returned to his neighborhood and gathered his<br>\nfriends for a revenge attack.<\/p>\n<p>After searching in vain for the people responsible for the<br>\nassault, the Morodemak youths went on the rampage in Margolinduk<br>\nsubdistrict, throwing stones and attacking 16 houses. They also<br>\ndamaged several ships belonging to local residents.<\/p>\n<p>Police officers quickly arrived in the subdistrict and calmed<br>\ndown the youths, Antara reported.<\/p>",
