Clarification from Sudomo<\/p>\n
From Merdeka<\/p>\n
I would like to focus on Supreme Advisory Council chairman
\nSudomo's comments in Merdeka (Oct. 6, 1995) on the relations
\nbetween the Armed Forces (ABRI) and Golkar.<\/p>\n
Clarity in history is of the utmost importance, especially for
\nthe generations to come. A clarification from the government will
\nstrengthen the veracity of the nation's history.<\/p>\n
ABRI's sociopolitical assistant Maj. Gen. Syarwan Hamid
\nrecently said that ABRI could not be neutral toward the three
\nsociopolitical organizations. ABRI supports Golkar due to the
\nsimilarity in their history.<\/p>\n
So, an explanation by a bureaucrat like Sudomo deserves to be
\nappreciated and followed by other officials.<\/p>\n
A second matter also deserves attention: \"ABRI members who are
\nstill active are not allowed to vote in the general election. As
\na compensation ABRI is allotted 100 seats in the MPR (People's
\nConsultative Assembly).\"<\/p>\n
However, Sudomo should further clarify for history's sake who
\nis going to give the 100 seats, and, if the reason is because
\nABRI does not participate in the general election, maybe PPP and
\nPDI will prefer not to participate in the general election and
\nthen demand 100 seats in the MPR too.<\/p>\n
If such is the case, it means only 100 seats remain to be
\ncontested (by whom?). This would really take social justice for
\nall Indonesians into consideration.<\/p>\n
Clarification, please, for the record.<\/p>\n
