Civil servants told to come clean<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): City administration employees active in
\npolitical parties, including the ruling Golkar, were urged on
\nTuesday to inform the city employee affairs bureau as soon as
\npossible.<\/p>\n
Agus Syarifudin, head of the employee regulations subdivision,
\nsaid hundreds of the 70,880 civil servants in the administration
\nwere active as executives in Golkar's Jakarta chapter.<\/p>\n
Chapter 7 of Government Regulation No. 12\/1999, signed into
\nlaw by President B.J. Habibie on Jan. 29, stipulates that civil
\nservants involved in political parties must notify the bureau and
\nask permission from their superiors to relinquish their duties.<\/p>\n
\"If they do not do so within three months, they will be
\ndishonorably discharged,\" Agus said.<\/p>\n
He said notification letters on the matter would be issued
\nwithin two weeks to all employees.<\/p>\n
He said civil servants who are members of parties would lose
\ntheir positions in the bureaucracy, but would be entitled to
\nmonetary compensation equal to one year's salary.<\/p>\n
\"This is in accordance with chapter 8 of the new regulation,\"
