City transportation policy needs review<\/p>\n

The 3-in-1 policy on major roads in Jakarta has been extended
\nto the afternoon (4 p.m. to 7 p.m.), while a new busway corridor
\nbetween Blok M and Kota is now operating.<\/p>\n
Nonetheless, the city's muddled traffic is not getting better.
\nAn estimated 20 million people continue to pack into the city
\nduring working hours.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, there are plans to augment Jakarta's
\ntransportation system with a monorail and river transportation
\nsystems, though their is no schedule for these plans. With
\npersistent congestion, the city's management of traffic must be
\nat fault.<\/p>\n
The problem is that no supporting policy has been introduced
\nto solve the traffic bottlenecks, while the rich, including
\ngovernment officials, show off their cars in the middle of these
\njams.<\/p>\n
Therefore, Jakarta's transportation policy should be reviewed
\nso that it can adequately support all attempts by the city to
\nresolve its traffic problems.<\/p>\n
