City to study monorail proposal<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The city administration plans to carefully study a
\nproposal from a Malaysian firm, M Trans Holding, which expressed
\nits wish to construct a monorail project to help ease the chronic
\nproblems of the city transportation.<\/p>\n
Assistant to the city secretary for development affairs Irzal
\nDjamal said he expected to receive this weekend the feasibility
\nreport, which will become the basis for the issuance of a
\nconcession permit to the Indonesian Transit Central (ITC) by
\nGovernor Sutiyoso.<\/p>\n
ITC is the consortium which will manage the project.<\/p>\n
Irzal said that he was tasked by the governor to study the
\nfeasibility document to see whether the project could be
\nintegrated with the overall plan for the transportation system
\nbeing developed by the city administration.<\/p>\n
"One of the things that is important to us is the price for
\npassengers, and whether the price is feasible for the average
\nIndonesian," Irzal said.<\/p>\n
The Malaysian firm is prepared to invest Rp 3.28 trillion
\n(US$400 million) in the first stage of the project, including the
\nconstruction of stations.<\/p>\n
The company plan to construct the monorail connecting Bekasi
\nand Tangerang, passing through the city, including Jl.
\nCasablanca.--JP<\/p>",
