        "content": "<p>City stops collecting levies<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The city administration stopped collecting 22<br>\nlevies on 31 different types of municipality service as of May<br>\n23.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was taken in line with Jakarta Governor's Decree<br>\nNo. 134\/1998 and Law No. 18\/1997 on the collection of local taxes<br>\nand levies.<\/p>\n<p>The abolished levies include fees charged for civil<br>\nregistration, disturbance regulation, citizenship, fire,<br>\nsanitation, funeral services and sidewalk businesses.<\/p>\n<p>The decree also states that city residents should only be<br>\nsubject to a fee of Rp 1,000 to process identification cards.<\/p>\n<p>When asked what the impact of the move on city revenues would<br>\nbe, City Hall spokesman Kamaludin S. refused to comment.<\/p>\n<p>However, Governor Sutiyoso said in March that locally<br>\ngenerated revenues in the 1998\/1999 fiscal year were expected to<br>\nfall 15.86 percent to Rp 1.72 trillion.
