        "content": "<p>City prepares flood control<\/p>\n<p>The city authorities are launching a number of flood control<br>\npreparations on major rivers throughout Jakarta in anticipation<br>\nto the upcoming rainy season, which is predicted to start next<br>\nmonth.<\/p>\n<p>\"We have deployed numerous officers at flood gates and have<br>\nprovided flood control facilities that will also remove garbage<br>\nfrom the rivers,\" Soeharto, head of the city public works office,<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to reporters after a meeting with the city's five<br>\nmayors, Soeharto said that his office had cleaned up several<br>\nrivers and reservoirs in an effort to facilitate the water flow.<\/p>\n<p>\"The silting up of many rivers has reached such an intolerable<br>\nlevel that we must clean them up,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the city authorities have also built a new<br>\nreservoir in Sunter Baru, expected to help control the floods<br>\nwhich usually last for several days.
