City postpones installation of military chiefs<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The city administration has abruptly postponed
\nthe installation of four of the five military members who were
\nscheduled to be appointed to the city's top positions on Monday.<\/p>\n
The abrupt decision was announced to the media on Friday
\nevening by city office spokesman Kamaludin Santos.<\/p>\n
Kamaludin, however, refused to give any comments about the
\nreason for the postponement.<\/p>\n
\"Just wait,\" was all he would say to the reporters' questions.<\/p>\n
According to Kamaludin, there would be eight, not the earlier
\nannounced seven, new senior officials installed in a ceremony to
\nbe conducted by Governor Sutiyoso at City Hall on Monday morning.<\/p>\n
But the positions for the new officials were slightly
\ndifferent from the positions which had been announced earlier by
\na reliable source in the city administration.<\/p>\n
Only three of the new posts are identical to the old posts.
\nThese three are the heads of the city's social and political
\naffairs directorate, the city-owned market management PD Pasar
\nJaya and Jakarta's development finance controller (BKPMD).<\/p>\n
In the new version of appointments announced by Kamaludin, the
\nother five posts include the head of the city office of the
\nMinistry Cooperatives and Small Enterprises and directors of four
\ncity-run hospitals.<\/p>\n
Out of the eight new officials, only one, Dody Sudarno, will
\nbe from the military. Sudarno will chair the city's social and
\npolitical affairs directorate.<\/p>\n
Kamaludin refused to comment about Dody, but a source in the
\ncity administration said that Dody was a colonel from the Jakarta
\nMilitary Command.<\/p>\n
Previously, the governor was scheduled to install seven new
\nofficials, five of whom had military backgrounds, for the city
\nadministration's senior posts.<\/p>\n
The five ABRI members were to chair the city's social and
\npolitical affairs directorate, the city land transportation
\nagency, the city sanitary agency, the city parking agency and the
\ncivilian defense unit's provincial headquarters.<\/p>\n
The two civilians were to chair the city-owned market
\nmanagement PD Pasar Jaya and the development finance controller.<\/p>\n
On Thursday, Sutiyoso even defended the appointment of the
\nfive military members, saying that it had been processed a long
\ntime ago.<\/p>\n
The governor, who met the media several hours before Kamaludin
\nissued the revised appointment plan, did not mention anything
\nabout the abrupt postponement.<\/p>\n
According to Kamaludin, on Monday the governor will install
\nAlbert Napitupulu as head of BKPMD, Syahrir Tanjung as the new
\nchair of PD Pasar Jaya and Samsul Hilatana as head of the city
\noffice of the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small Enterprises.<\/p>\n
Sutiyoso will also install Zulrasdi Djaias, Umar Wahid, Abdul
\nChalik Masulili and Martin Bimbuain as directors of Haji Hospital
\nin East Jakarta, Pasar Rebo Hospital in East Jakarta, Koja
\nHospital in North Jakarta and Tarakan Hospital in Central
