        "content": "<p>City plans to restrict smoking<\/p>\n<p>The Jakarta city administration plans to prohibit<br>\nsmoking in public places such as public transit, and government<br>\nand private buildings this year.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Sutiyoso said Monday he is still preparing the legal<br>\nstructure of the policy, which could come in the form of a<br>\ngubernatorial decree or a bylaw.<\/p>\n<p>\"Hopefully, the public places will be tobacco free by the end<br>\nof this year. I hope that the policy will receive support from<br>\nthe public,\" he added.<\/p>\n<p>Sutiyoso said that for the first phase in implementing the<br>\npolicy, he may require all building owners to provide an isolated<br>\nplace for smokers so that their habit will not disrupt other<br>\npeople.<\/p>\n<p>Sutiyoso said he also planned to issue a decree limiting the<br>\nage of visitors to discotheques and some other venues - a common<br>\npolicy in a number of countries.<\/p>\n<p>\"If other countries can impose tobacco free zones and limit<br>\nthe age of visitors to night clubs, why can't we do it here?\" he<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, there are many private buildings which ban<br>\nemployees from smoking in certain areas, but the policy is not<br>\npopular among government offices, with the exception of the<br>\nhealth department. --JP<\/p>",
