City plans to expand Pulogadung estate<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): City administration, in cooperation with a
\nprivate company, plans to expand the Pulogadung industrial
\nestate, East Jakarta by 80 hectares.<\/p>\n
A source at the city administration told reporters yesterday
\nthat the expansion is needed to transform the estate, which was
\nestablished in 1973, so the complex will be \"better organized.\"<\/p>\n
Currently, the Pulogadung industrial estate is located on a
\n570 hectare plot of land and is believed to be the most expensive
\nindustrial estate in the city, where a company should pay US$12
\nper square-meter in rent.<\/p>\n
The city administration is cooperating with the private
\ncompany because it has not enough funds to carry out the
\nexpansion plan, said a source who spoke on condition of
\nanonymity.<\/p>\n
The source said that each party, the Pulogadung industrial
\nestate authority and PT Cakra Sarana Persada, already has
\nobtained 30 hectares of land and still needs another 20 hectares.<\/p>\n
Since the land is owned by local residents the city
\nadministration needs approval from the city council to
\nappropriate the land.<\/p>\n
Indonesian Democratic Party representative in the city council
\nLukman Mokoginta told reporters yesterday that the city
\nadministration should be transparent in setting the compensation
\nrates for the land.<\/p>\n
\"It's all right to appropriate the land as long as the city
\nadministration is setting the compensation fairly based on the
\nprevailing regulations,\" Lukman said.<\/p>\n
He explained that under the regulation, compensation should be
\nbased on the current value of taxable property.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Secretary of the United Development Party Saud
\nRachman opposed the plan, saying that the industrial estate is
\nnot appropriate in the city because factories cause air
\npollution.<\/p>\n
\"With the existing factories the air is already badly polluted
\nand the condition will be worse if more factories are built in
\nPulogadung,\" Saud said.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, he said, the expansion is contrary to the
\ncity program to relocate factories to the city outskirts as well
\nas other towns near the city.<\/p>\n
\"So it is unacceptable for the city administration to expand
\nPulogadung industrial estate,\" Saud said. (yns)<\/p>",
