        "content": "<p>City planning needs support<\/p>\n<p>Governor Surjadi Soedirdja has asked universities in Jakarta<br>\nto support Jakarta's nine planning strategies established in 1992<br>\nin order to alleviate the city's population problem, especially<br>\nin the most impoverished areas.<\/p>\n<p>\"It is important that universities help and support the city<br>\nprograms with their knowledge,\" Surjadi told university rectors<br>\nWednesday evening.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the city plans to build low-cost apartments<br>\nto improve slum areas. The apartments will be part of an effort<br>\nto beautify Jakarta and to provide green spaces for social<br>\nactivities.<\/p>\n<p>Last week the governor laid the cornerstone for the<br>\nconstruction of four low-cost apartment projects in Bendungan<br>\nHilir, Karet Tengsin and Jati Bunder in Central Jakarta and<br>\nanother one in Tebet Barat in South Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>The nine strategic plans aim to eradicate slum areas, reduce<br>\nhigh population growth rate, manage the growing private sector,<br>\nimprove public services for the poor, upgrade civil servant<br>\nperformance, develop a better transportation infrastructure,<br>\nincrease regional revenues, implement integrated development<br>\npolicies and improve sanitary conditions of the environment.<br>\n(yns)<\/p>",
