City eyes convention business<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The city administration will continue the
\naggressive promotion of tourism linked to the convention
\nbusiness, an official of the City Tourism Office says.<\/p>\n
Fauzi Bowo, head of the office, told reporters over the
\nweekend that the promotion is being conducted in line with the
\nupward trend in convention organization.<\/p>\n
Through the promotion, more foreign tourists are expected to
\ntake part in the mushrooming international exhibitions held in
\nthe city, he said.<\/p>\n
Fauzi explained that the promotion for conventions and
\ntourists is being carried out because a tourist participating in
\na convention spends an average of US$450 per day as compared to
\nonly US$200 spent daily by a casual tourist.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Soekardjo Hardjosoewiryo of the Jakarta
\nInternational Trade Fair Corporation, said that his office
\nreceives many inquiries from foreign companies wanting to join
\nthe corporation's exhibitions here.<\/p>\n
Soekardjo, who is also chairman of the Asia Pacific Exhibition
\nand Convention Council, said, \"Many foreign businessmen are
\ninterested in exhibiting their products here.\"<\/p>\n
He said that the annual Jakarta Fair, which will start on June
\n17, will be held at the Jakarta Fairground in Kemayoran, North
