City Councilors need to introspect<\/p>\n

As a Jakarta citizen I can only feel sad and helpless after
\nreading the news about the Jakarta City Council members who've
\ngiven more emphasis to their own facilities than to public
\ninterests. After asking for a lot of land, they also asked for a
\ncar, whereas a car subsidy of Rp 75 million had been granted to
\neach of them.<\/p>\n
I am extremely concerned. They haven't even been working for
\none year, but they've made so many demands. People haven't seen
\ntheir performance. The councilors should have known that what
\nthey are supposed to do is work first and ask for your reward
\nafter!<\/p>\n
If they wanted to actually think and work there are a lot of
\nproblems in the community that they have to solve. Just have a
\nlook around the community to identify the existing problems.<\/p>\n
For example, set up a team for the solution of garbage
\nproblems which hasn't been settled as yet. You can map out the
\nproblems and prepare a blue-print of solutions for short, medium
\nand long term schemes, so the outputs can be made into an
\noperational directive for the executives as well as a reference
\nfor the people.<\/p>\n
Such a directive is important and it can't be left up to the
\nexecutives because the executives have already been \"established\"
\nin their power-centered frame of mind.<\/p>\n
Breakthroughs and ideas are expected from the legislative
\npeople. But are the legislative members capable of doing so? I
\nhope they are, but I am doubtful.<\/p>\n
