        "content": "<p>City Council removes protesting squatters<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Some 60 protesters, who had stayed in the City<br>\nCouncil compound on Jl.Kebon Sirih, Central Jakarta since Monday,<br>\nhave been finally removed by authorities to the city-owned Kedoya<br>\nrehabilitation center in West Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>No clashes were reported during Friday's expulsion which was<br>\ncarried out by dozens of officials from the Central Jakarta<br>\nmayoralty administration office and police personnel.<\/p>\n<p>\"It's just a public order operation to check these people's ID<br>\ncards. We found that most of them have no Jakarta identification<br>\ncard (KTP),\" said a police officer at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>At least 47 of them, he added, held ID cards issued by the<br>\nBrebes administration office in Central Java.<\/p>\n<p>The people stayed at the council building to protest the<br>\naction of the authorities, who they claimed forcibly removed them<br>\nfrom their shanties at several locations, such as Pondok Kopi,<br>\nKebon Sawah, Cipinang Cempedak and Kebon Jagung.<\/p>\n<p>During the one-hour operation that started at about 10:30 p.m.<br>\nFriday, the officials also seized tents, utensils and banners<br>\nfrom the protesters.<\/p>\n<p>Upon their arrival at the Kedoya rehabilitation center, which<br>\nis officially used to temporarily detain public order violators,<br>\nthe people were later picked up by executives from the Urban Poor<br>\nConsortium (UPC), who coordinated the activities of the<br>\ndemonstrators.
