City council questions parking firm on compliance<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The city council is checking a company operating
\ncity parking places to see whether the company complies with
\ngovernment parking revenue regulations, a councilor said.<\/p>\n
Ali Wongso of the commission D in charge of city development
\nsaid PT Securindo Packtama Indonesia (SPI) could not give
\naccurate earnings figures to councilors during a meeting
\nyesterday.<\/p>\n
"We do not know if the company violates any regulation now,
\nbut we are definitely checking the possibilities," Ali said.<\/p>\n
The city administration requires private parking management
\ncompanies to give 25 percent of ticket earnings to the city
\nparking authority. The money is added to the city's income.<\/p>\n
Ali said the check was also being done because SPI's
\nrepresentative could not give the exact number of parking places
\nit operated and only gave an estimate of 30 parking places.<\/p>\n
Some of the parking places are licensed under SPI's name while
\nothers are managed under contract with building owners, he said,
\nnoting that managing parking places under different companies
\nmight be illegal.<\/p>\n
Ali said the city council have records of only 14 parking
\nplaces the company operates including several Hero Supermarket
\nparking lots and at Senayan Plaza.<\/p>\n
"I am sure a company can manage parking places using another
\nbusiness license only with permission of the governor and the
\ncity council," he said.<\/p>\n
"Although there is no ruling regarding this kind of
\nmanagement, the governor will take firm action if the company's
\nproven to violate the municipality's regulation," he said.<\/p>\n
Ali said another meeting would be held by the city council to
\ndiscuss the issue during which the company would have to report
\nthe number of parking places it operated and the revenue it
\nearned.<\/p>\n
He said the important thing was not the amount of money the
\ncompany pays but the service it provided for the public without
\ncreating traffic havoc. (02)<\/p>",
