        "content": "<p>City council questions parking firm on compliance<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The city council is checking a company operating<br>\ncity parking places to see whether the company complies with<br>\ngovernment parking revenue regulations, a councilor said.<\/p>\n<p>Ali Wongso of the commission D in charge of city development<br>\nsaid PT Securindo Packtama Indonesia (SPI) could not give<br>\naccurate earnings figures to councilors during a meeting<br>\nyesterday.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We do not know if the company violates any regulation now,<br>\nbut we are definitely checking the possibilities,&quot; Ali said.<\/p>\n<p>The city administration requires private parking management<br>\ncompanies to give 25 percent of ticket earnings to the city<br>\nparking authority. The money is added to the city&apos;s income.<\/p>\n<p>Ali said the check was also being done because SPI&apos;s<br>\nrepresentative could not give the exact number of parking places<br>\nit operated and only gave an estimate of 30 parking places.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the parking places are licensed under SPI&apos;s name while<br>\nothers are managed under contract with building owners, he said,<br>\nnoting that managing parking places under different companies<br>\nmight be illegal.<\/p>\n<p>Ali said the city council have records of only 14 parking<br>\nplaces the company operates including several Hero Supermarket<br>\nparking lots and at Senayan Plaza.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I am sure a company can manage parking places using another<br>\nbusiness license only with permission of the governor and the<br>\ncity council,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Although there is no ruling regarding this kind of<br>\nmanagement, the governor will take firm action if the company&apos;s<br>\nproven to violate the municipality&apos;s regulation,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ali said another meeting would be held by the city council to<br>\ndiscuss the issue during which the company would have to report<br>\nthe number of parking places it operated and the revenue it<br>\nearned.<\/p>\n<p>He said the important thing was not the amount of money the<br>\ncompany pays but the service it provided for the public without<br>\ncreating traffic havoc.
