City considering a change in busway management<\/p>\n
The Jakarta administration is looking into the possibility of
\nchanging the status of the TransJakarta Busway Management to a
\ncity-run company.<\/p>\n
\"With this new status, the management would no longer have to
\ndepend on the subventions from the city budget that it currently
\nreceives as a non-structural institution in the city
\nadministration,\" Hari Sandjojo, the newly-appointed assistant to
\nthe Jakarta Secretary for Development Affairs, told The Jakarta
\nPost on Friday.<\/p>\n
Hari said that the management would continue to oversee busway
\noperations in the city.<\/p>\n
Besides the Blok M-Kota corridor, which has been operational
\nsince early this year, the administration plans to expand the
\nbusway network with the construction of new a corridor from Pulo
\nGebang in East Jakarta to Kalideres in West Jakarta, via the
\nNational Monument Park (Monas).<\/p>\n
Jakarta plans to build a total of 14 busway corridors by 2010.<\/p>\n
\"But, the busway operating companies will have to depend on
\ninvestors ready to procure the buses for the projects,\" Hari
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
TransJakarta Busway Management chairman Irzal Z. Djamal said
\nearlier that the plan to change the status of the management
\nboard's status to that of a company would enable the management
\nto raise money from private sector investors.<\/p>\n
\"This status would allow us to collaborate with the private
\nsector, including carrying advertisements on our buses.\"<\/p>\n
Irzal said on Friday that the management would launch new
\nrenewable tickets starting on Nov. 1.<\/p>\n
Ticket would cost between Rp 25,000 (US$2.71) and Rp 125,000,
