City administration to cooperate with universities<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): City administration signed a memorandum of
\nunderstanding (MOU) on Thursday with a number of state
\nuniversities to conduct joint research into improving services
\nfor residents.<\/p>\n
\"City administration has to prepare its officials and also its
\nresidents with the latest development in science and technology.
\nI hope this cooperation can help city administration in doing
\nso,\" Governor Sutiyoso said while addressing the ceremony marking
\nthe signing of the memorandums at City Hall.<\/p>\n
\"Universities can use Jakarta as a dynamic living laboratory
\nto apply new theory and to acquire new knowledge,\" he added.<\/p>\n
The ceremony saw the establishment of new cooperation
\nagreements with three universities, renewed agreements with two
\nuniversities and a renamed agreement with a university, which
\nchanged its name. In total, there are 10 universities grouped in
\nthe cooperation with the city administration.<\/p>\n
The newly established agreements were made with the Bogor
\nInstitute of Agriculture (IPB) covering urban forest, farming and
\nfishery issues, the Yogyakarta-based Gadjah Mada University (UGM)
\ncovering social, economy and city facility issues, and the
\nJakarta-based Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic Institute (IAIN)
\ncovering religious and women empowerment issues.<\/p>\n
The two renewed agreements were made with Bandung-based
\nPadjadjaran University (Unpad) and the Bandung Institute of
\nTechnology (ITB).<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the renamed agreement with Jakarta-based Teachers
\nTraining Institute (IKIP) was renamed as the institute changed
\nits name to Jakarta State University (UNJ).<\/p>\n
Other universities involved in the cooperation are the
\nJakarta-based University of Indonesia (UI), State Institute of
\nPublic Administration (IIP), State Institute of Administration
\n(STIA LAN-RI) and Police Staff College (PTIK). (05)<\/p>",
