Cisco's Internet exchange<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Cisco Systems, one of the world's largest
\ncompanies in networking, in cooperation with the Association of
\nIndonesian Internet Service Providers, will build an Internet
\nexchange here to enable local customers to interact directly with
\none another.<\/p>\n
Cisco's head representative and country manager for Indonesia
\nDaniel Tofani said yesterday Cisco would provide four Internet
\nrouters to enable local Internet service providers (ISP) to make
\ndirect local links with each other.<\/p>\n
\"Indonesian ISPs are currently not linked with each other. So,
\nif a user of one local ISP sends an e-mail to a user of another
\nlocal ISP, the e-mail has to be sent to the United States before
\nit is delivered back to the other ISP,\" Daniel explained.<\/p>\n
The association's secretary general Teddy A. Purwadi said that
\nthe establishment of an Internet exchange would reduce the cost
\nof telecommunications and boost the growth of Internet usage in
\nthe country.<\/p>\n
He said that the number of Internet hosts or websites in
\nIndonesia doubled in a year to 10,861 as of July from 5,262
