The Cirebon City Police have modified traffic light timings at the Palimanan intersection to alleviate congestion on the North Coast route during the 2026 Lebaran return traffic. Green light durations from the Bandung direction have been extended from 30 seconds to one minute, while the overall cycle has increased to 3.5 minutes to prioritise main flows and manage the influx of vehicles from Central Java to Jakarta. This measure addresses the surge in traffic volume caused by returning holidaymakers mixing with local vehicles, with police officers manually directing flow to prevent total gridlock.

Cirebon (ANTARA) - The Cirebon City Police in West Java are adjusting
the duration of traffic lights at the Palimanan Four-Way Intersection to
ease congestion during the 2026 Lebaran return flow on the local North
Coast (Pantura) route, on Tuesday.

The Head of the Palimanan Security Post of Cirebon City Police,
Commissioner Reynaldi, in Cirebon on Tuesday, stated that vehicle volume
passing through the arterial route has increased since the morning,
particularly from Central Java towards Jakarta.

“Currently, there is an increase in flow on the arterial route due to
the concentration of returning drivers mixing with local traffic,” he
said.

To address this density, he explained, the police are implementing
on-the-spot traffic engineering, including changing the traffic light
durations at the intersection.

According to him, the green light duration from the Bandung to
Cirebon direction, previously around 30 seconds, has now been extended
to one minute to smooth vehicle movement.

However, under certain conditions, he added, vehicles from that
direction are also temporarily stopped to prioritise the main flow from
other routes.

He mentioned that the green light, originally around 2.5 minutes, has
now been increased to 3.5 minutes or 210 seconds, so that traffic flow
can be conducive.

Reynaldi explained that the traffic density at the location is
influenced by the meeting of returning holiday traffic with local
residents’ vehicle activities, as well as the impact of the one-way
system from Central Java to Jakarta.

ANTARA observations show queues of vehicles snaking at several points
along the Cirebon Pantura route. The flow is dominated by motorcycles
mixed with private cars, intercity buses, and logistics trucks passing
slowly on the arterial route.

Several police officers are also seen on guard to manually regulate
vehicle movement using traffic wands.

Officers are stopping and releasing vehicle flows alternately to
prevent total congestion at that point.
",
