        "content": "<p>Ciputra develops artistic city<\/p>\n<p>By Fairus Husaini<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): A new residential area was officially opened<br>\nyesterday in Cikupa, Tangerang, in the presence of four cabinet<br>\nministers and noted developer Ciputra, who is also owner of the<br>\nCitra Raya housing complex.<\/p>\n<p>The main gate of Citra Raya is built in a classical Western<br>\nstyle with 16 horse statues on top. PT Citraland Estate, the<br>\ndeveloper of the complex, has said that it is trying to create<br>\nsomething new and artistic in the property business.<\/p>\n<p>Citra Raya is located some 30 kilometers west of here and is<br>\ncalling itself &quot;the city with artistic nuance&quot;. The area covers<br>\n1,000 hectares, where 2,100 houses of various sizes and types<br>\nwill be constructed around an imposing fountain.<\/p>\n<p>The four ministers attending yesterday&apos;s ceremony were<br>\nMinister of Public Housing Akbar Tanjung, Minister of Land<br>\nAffairs\/Chairman of Land Agency Soni Harsono, Minister of<br>\nTourism, Post and Telecommunications Joop Ave and Minister of<br>\nEducation and Culture Wardiman Djojonegoro.<\/p>\n<p>Ciputra, the owner of the company and the country&apos;s leading<br>\nproperty businessman, was also on hand.<\/p>\n<p>Also officiated was the company&apos;s marketing office filled with<br>\na variety of sculpture.<\/p>\n<p>PT Citraland Estate has invested Rp 1 trillion (US$495<br>\nmillion) to develop the complex. The first stage of development,<br>\nwhich covers an area of 500 hectares, has been completed. Another<br>\n500 hectares will be developed over the next 10 years, including<br>\nthe construction of art galleries and artist housing.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We have put aside five percent of the total development cost<br>\nfor creating an artistic nuance in this complex,&quot; Budiarsa<br>\nSastrawinata, president of PT Citraland Estate, told journalists<br>\nmoments after the ceremony yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Budiarsa said the company, in cooperation with the Jakarta Art<br>\nInstitute, held a contest in June to come up with the statues<br>\nbest suited to the Citra Raya ambience.<\/p>\n<p>The winning statues are displayed around the complex.<\/p>\n<p>Dolorosa Sinaga, dean of the Jakarta School of Fine Arts, told<br>\nThe Jakarta Post that the institute helped appoint members of the<br>\njury for the competition, which was only open to local sculptors.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;At first we selected 20 people from 120 contestants. Then we<br>\nchose six out of the 20,&quot; Sinaga said, adding that a similar<br>\ncompetition will be held yearly to continue decorating the<br>\ncomplex.<\/p>\n<p>Budiarsa said that compared to other Ciputra housing complexes<br>\nin Jakarta, the Citra Raya housing complex is unique in that it<br>\nemphasizes the esthetic aspects of development while maintaining<br>\nall the necessary residential facilities.<\/p>\n<p>PT Pembangunan Jaya, which is Ciputra&apos;s business company, the<br>\nMetropolitan Group along with the city administration have<br>\nestablished a number of prestigious shopping centers in the<br>\ncapital, such as the Pondok Indah Mall, CitraLand Mall, and the<br>\nAtrium. In addition to the several housing complexes that he has<br>\ndeveloped in Bintaro and Pondok Indah, he is perhaps best known<br>\nfor creating the entertainment and recreation center Ancol<br>\nDreamland and Dunia Fantasi.<\/p>",
