Cipondoh swamp left untapped<\/p>\n
TANGERANG: A project to develop Situ Rawa Cipondoh lake in a
\nswamp area into a recreational site has been abandoned for the
\nlast two years, an official said on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Tangerang administration spokesman Saeful Rachman said the
\nproject was started by developer PT Griya Eka Paksi when
\nTangerang was still part of West Java province.<\/p>\n
The municipality was made a part of Banten province in 2002.<\/p>\n
"But as of today, it is unclear what the developer has been
\ndoing. We have summoned the developer several times to clarify
\nthis, but none of the company's representatives have come to the
\nadministration office," Saeful told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
He added that Mayor Wahidin Halim had decided not to give any
\npermits to developers to make any changes to the swamp until PT
\nGriya Eka Paksi restored it to its original function as a
\ncatchment area.<\/p>\n
The neglected project had separated the 26-hectare lake into
\ntwo parts.<\/p>\n
Currently, the lake, which is located right opposite the
\noffice of Cipondoh administration on Jl. KH Hasyim Ashari, is a
\npopular fishing spot for locals. -- JP<\/p>",
