Cimanggis bombmaker gets 7 years<\/p>\n

Cibinong District Court sentenced on Wednesday Oman Abdurrahman,
\n32, to seven years' imprisonment for his involvement in a bomb
\nblast on March 21, 2004, in Sukamaju Baru subdistrict, Cimanggis
\ndistrict, Depok.<\/p>\n
The sentence was a year less than that sought by the
\nprosecutors.<\/p>\n
Presiding judge Eka Budi Prijanta underlined that Oman had
\nbeen proven guilty of the illegal possession of explosive
\nmaterials intended for use in a terrorist act.<\/p>\n
Eka said that Oman, who is a Muslim preacher, was also proven
\nguilty of instructing a training session on bomb assembly in
\nCimanggis.<\/p>\n
\"The incriminating factor in the verdict is that the defendant
\nsparked unrest among the people,\" the judge told the courtroom,
\nwhich was packed with Oman's supporters, mostly clad in white
\nrobes.<\/p>\n
Responding to the verdict, Oman's lawyer Erwin Firmansyah from
\nthe Muslim Defenders Team said they would appeal.<\/p>\n
Before leaving the courtroom, Oman circulated written
\nstatements that he did not recognize regulations other than the
\nKoran.<\/p>\n
Oman also said Muslims should not be loyal to the government,
\nwhich is not founded in sharia.<\/p>\n
Oman and eight members of his congregation have been named
\nsuspects for allegedly storing and assembling bombs in a house on
\nJl. Bakti ABRI. The bombs exploded prematurely in the house, but
\nno one was hurt in the incident.<\/p>\n
Besides Oman, the court on Tuesday sentenced Agus Kusdianto to
\nfive years' imprisonment, Muhamad Ferdiansyah and Hadi Swandono
\nto four years', and Samin alias Apip Saan to three years' for
\nsimilar crimes.<\/p>\n
The court is scheduled to read its verdicts on Kamaludin,
\nSyarif Hidayat, Septiono alias Amar and Inggrid Wahyucahyaningsih
\non Thursday.<\/p>\n
After the incident on March 21, the police seized a total of
\n31.5 kilograms of potassium chlorate plus nine small sections of
\npiping, and another section of piping already packed with
\nexplosives.<\/p>\n
The police also found two plastic bags containing sulfur,
\nfragments from a detonator, a notebook computer, weighing scales,
\nVCDs on jihad (holy war) and a number of documents.<\/p>\n
The suspects are reportedly members of a secretive Muslim
\ngroup led by Oman. They had been living in a succession of rented
\nhouses in Cimanggis in the eight months prior to the incident.<\/p>",
