The Bandung City Government has officially handed over the assets of\nJalan Cihampelas and Cihampelas Walk to the West Java Provincial\nGovernment. The signing of the grant deed was carried out by West Java\nGovernor Dedi Mulyadi together with Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan at\nBandung City Hall on Wednesday, 29 July 2026.<\/p>\n
Dedi Mulyadi said the West Java Provincial Government would\nimmediately take administrative steps before carrying out the\nredevelopment of the Cihampelas Walk area. According to him, the\ngovernment\u2019s focus is no longer on administrative matters, but on\ntechnical execution in the field. \u201cCihampelas Walk has been handed over\nto the provincial government, and next we will prepare the\nadministration to restore this area so it once again becomes a centre\nfor the creative industries, fashion, and a tourist destination,\u201d said\nDedi.<\/p>\n
The man familiarly known as KDM is optimistic that the area\u2019s\nredevelopment will have an even greater positive impact if operations at\nHusein Sastranegara Airport return to normal. According to him,\ntourists, particularly from Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei, have the\npotential to make Bandung a primary destination once again. \u201cOnce Husein\nSastranegara Airport is up and running, I am confident tourists will\nflock back to Bandung. They will stay longer, which will have an impact\non the hotel, restaurant, and city economy sectors,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Regarding plans to demolish Cihampelas Walk, Dedi assured that the\nprocess would be carried out through an auction mechanism once all\nadministrative matters were completed. \u201cWe will prepare the\nadministrative instruments, then hold an auction. The demolition has\nvalue. Whoever offers the best bid earns the right to demolish it,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Dedi continued that the administrative process is targeted for\ncompletion within one month, followed by the auction stage, so that the\nCihampelas Walk area is targeted to be cleared by October 2026. On that\noccasion, KDM also responded to the potential scrutiny from oversight\ninstitutions over the demolition process. Dedi stated that all stages\nwould be carried out transparently and in accordance with the rules.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat matters is that there is no bad intent. As long as the process\nis straightforward and follows the mechanism, everyone will understand,\u201d\nhe said. KDM assured that the government would not allocate a special\nbudget for the demolition. The value of the work will be determined\nthrough an appraisal process before being auctioned to interested\nparties.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said that Jalan Cihampelas\nand Cihampelas Walk are now fully under the authority of the West Java\nProvincial Government.
