Cianjur ulemas trained to promote Islamic law<\/p>\n

At least 371 ulemas in Cianjur, West Java, underwent training for
\ntwo days on the promotion of syariah (Islamic law) in the
\nregency, which has a two million population.<\/p>\n
Cianjur Regent Wasidi Swastomo said on Tuesday that the
\ntraining aimed at eliminating confusion and concern among the
\npeople about the possible implementation of syariah in the
\nregency.<\/p>\n
"A correct explanation on syarih should be given to ulemas and
\npublic figures in Cianjur because the public has a misperception
\nthat the implementation of syariah would see the regency seceding
\nfrom the unitary state of Indonesia," Wasidi was quoted by Antara
\nas saying.<\/p>\n
"They are prepared to become campaigners and explain the
\nimplementation of syariah," said Wasidi, adding that people
\nwanted syariah to be implemented in the regency.<\/p>\n
Ulemas participating in the training came from various Muslim
\nsocial organizations and Muslim non-governmental organizations
\n(NGOs). During the training, senior prominent ulemas and Muslim
\nintellectuals explained the concept of Gerbang Marhamah (Gate of
\nBlessings).<\/p>\n
"The Gerbang Marhamah concept is under the country's authority
\nand I'm convinced that nobody will deny this concept," Wasidi
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
After the training, 345 ulemas will be sent throughout the
\nregency to disseminate information about syariah, while the
\nremaining 26 will serve as coordinators stationed in the
\nregency's 26 districts.<\/p>\n
At least 45 NGOs and 85 campaigners from various Muslim-based
\npolitical parties have also pledged to participate in the
\ncampaign.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile Abdul Halim, chairman of the Ciganjur Indonesian
\nUlemas Council (MUI), said the training played a significant role
\nin forming Akhlakul Karimah (Good Attitude) as an important
\nelement in the implementation of syariah.<\/p>\n
"We should explain Akhlakul Karimah to the people as the
\nmanifestation of the law to avoid an incorrect perception," Abdul
\nsaid.<\/p>",
