        "content": "<p>Chrysler acquires Thai branch<\/p>\n<p>BANGKOK (AFP): America's third largest carmaker Chrysler has<br>\ntaken over its Thai subsidiary and set up a new company to<br>\ncontrol marketing and distribution here, a report said Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Chrysler president for the Asia-Pacific, Ronald Guardhouse,<br>\nsaid the United States parent had upped its stake in Thai<br>\nChrysler Automotive Co. from the 30 percent previously held.<\/p>\n<p>The Nation daily said Guardhouse, following a courtesy call on<br>\nThai Premier Chuan Leekpai, announced Chrysler had taken a<br>\ncontrolling interest but did not give a percentage figure.<\/p>\n<p>He said the new company, Chrysler Sales and Services, would be<br>\nwholly-owned. Chrysler has six dealers, 10 mega dealers and 40<br>\nshowrooms in Thailand, the report said.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S.-based firm also said it planned soon to increase the<br>\nlocal content of its vehicles manufactured here from the current<br>\n54 percent.<\/p>",
