        "content": "<p>Former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology,\nNadiem Makarim, has spotlighted the opening of his Tax Notification\nLetter (SPT) data in the trial of the alleged corruption case involving\nthe procurement of Chromebook laptops.<\/p>\n<p>According to Nadiem, the presentation of the SPT in the courtroom is\nan unusual matter, given that tax reports are private and should be kept\nconfidential.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, all my tax SPTs were displayed in front of the court. This is\na very strange thing,\u201d Nadiem told reporters after the trial at the\nCentral Jakarta Corruption Court, on Monday (30\/3\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>He emphasised that his openness in reporting taxes is instead being\nused to build a narrative that he deems inconsistent with the facts.\nHowever, Nadiem said the presentation actually clarifies that there is\nno Rp809 billion figure as alleged.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is proven that in all my tax SPTs, there is no Rp809 billion\nfigure at all,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Nadiem also touched on the testimony of a witness from the\nDirectorate General of Taxes presented by the prosecutors. According to\nhim, the testimony strengthens the explanation that several figures in\nquestion are not personal income.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the Rp5.2 trillion figure, which was once\nmentioned, is not income but a tax payment obligation for the founder\u2019s\ntax.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, he stated that the Rp809 billion figure contested in\nthe indictment is part of an internal corporate transaction, not\npersonal assets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was explained that the Rp809 billion is the SPT of Gojek\nIndonesia, not mine. And that transaction is an internal corporate\ntransaction that returns to the company,\u201d he clarified.<\/p>\n<p>Nadiem questioned the relevance of the tax data revealed in the trial\nto the matter being adjudicated, namely the Chromebook procurement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is the connection between internal corporate transactions and\nthe Chromebook procurement? What is the connection between my SPT and\nthis case?\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, Nadiem appreciated the testimonies of the witnesses,\nwhich he deemed to objectively explain the facts in the trial.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that he is optimistic the legal process will gradually\nuncover the truth and that the public can assess this case clearly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe justice will be revealed, and the public will see various\nirregularities in this case,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n<p>In this case, Nadiem is charged with corruption in the Chromebook\nlaptop and Chrome Device Management (CDM) procurement project while\nserving as Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. The\nproject is alleged to have caused state losses of Rp2.1 trillion.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Nadiem had filed an exception to the prosecutors\u2019\nindictment. However, the panel of judges rejected the exception and\ndecided to proceed to the proof stage.<\/p>",
