Chopper lands in river<\/p>\n

JAKARTA (JP): A helicopter with a single pilot made an
\nemergency landing yesterday in the Kali Malang river, East
\nJakarta, after experiencing engine trouble.<\/p>\n
The helicopter, of the N Bell-206 type, belongs to PT
\nDerazona, a privately-owned aircraft and helicopter leasing
\ncompany.<\/p>\n
A Search and Rescue officer from the air force said that the
\nhelicopter was flying from Marunda in North Jakarta to Halim
\nPerdanakusuma airport in East Jakarta when it experienced the
\ntrouble.<\/p>\n
Watched by hundreds of spectators, a giant crane lifted the
\nhelicopter (center) from the river before it was placed in a
\ntruck for transportation to a nearby repair shop.<\/p>\n
Eyewitness Sjahrir said that at 8:30 a.m. he saw the
\nhelicopter spinning noiselessly above the river with its rotor
\nblades not turning.<\/p>\n
Minutes later the helicopter landed in the river, hitting an
\nelectric cable duct, he said.<\/p>\n
Only the windscreen of the helicopter was damaged and pilot
\nAnton Martono emerged unscratched. The incident caused huge
\ntraffic jams along Jl. Kali Malang and the surrounding area for
\nmore than an hour as curious motorists stopped to observe the
\nfallen chopper.<\/p>\n
