'Chopper crash not human error'<\/p>\n
YOGYAKARTA: Air Force Chief of Staff Air Marshall Hanafie
\nAsnan asserted here on Tuesday that human error was not the cause
\nof Saturday's crash of the presidential guards' helicopter in a
\npaddy field in Kertasari village, Ciamis, West Java.<\/p>\n
The cause would only be determined after a special
\ninvestigation team completed its work at the crash site, he said,
\nadding he was awaiting the results.<\/p>\n
\"The complete results will be announced as soon as possible,\"
\nhe said here after officiating at a ceremony marking the transfer
\nof duty of the governor of the Air Force Academy.<\/p>\n
He said a report from Jakarta's Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force
\nBase declared the helicopter safe for flying.<\/p>\n
The aircraft experienced engine trouble as it was about to
\nbegin its approach to land at Galuh Stadium in Ciamis, but the
\npilot was still able to find a safe landing area, Hanafie said.<\/p>\n
\"Thus, we were relieved as the chopper could land in a safe
\nplace, and not harm the local people or cause more serious
\ndamage,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The helicopter, which took off from the West Java capital of
\nBandung, home to Husein Sastra Negara Air Force Base in Ciamis
\ndistrict, carried five passengers, a co-pilot, mechanic and two
\ncrew members.<\/p>\n
The passengers were Brig. Gen. Aritonang, Brig. Gen. Soenarto,
\nBudiono, Sgt. Suwandi, and Sgt. Indra, while the four others were
\nMaj. Supit, Sgt. Agus, Capt. Hikmah and Maj. Wieko. They were set
\nto observe preparations for the official visit of President B.J.
\nHabibie to Darussalam Islamic boarding school this week.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the post of the Air Force Academy governor was
\ntransferred from Rear Marshall Chappy Hakim to First Marshall
\nGaharudin Gunawan.<\/p>\n
Hakim will be promoted to the position of personnel assistant
\nof the Air Force chief of staff. Gunawan was previously expert
\nstaff in aerospace affairs to the Air Force chief of staff.<\/p>",
