Chinese TV manufacturer opens factory<\/p>\n
TANGERANG (JP): A Chinese television set manufacturer
\nChanghong Electronic Group Corporation officially opened a TV
\nassembly factory at Cikupa here on Friday.<\/p>\n

\nWirahadikusumah officially opened the Rp 25 billion
\n(US$2.9million) investment that is capable of producing 800,000
\ntelevision sets per year.<\/p>\n
The factory, which will also produce airconditioners, digital
\nvideos, and other electronic goods, has hired around 30,000 local
\nemployees, including 3,430 employees with a higher education
\nbackground.<\/p>\n
Agus said the presence of Chinese electronic goods would
\nbenefit the public because the goods, although offered at cheaper
\nprices, have a similar quality to electronic products made in
\nJapan.<\/p>\n
\"Consumers will be advantaged by the presence of cheaper
\nChinese goods because all this time only limited products from
\nseveral countries have controlled the market even though their
\nprices are higher than Chinese goods,\" Agus said.<\/p>\n
He said the government now no longer prohibits the dumping of
\ngoods in Indonesia as in practice it can bring a lot of
\nadvantages to the people.<\/p>\n
\"Now, it's up to the people to decide. If they accept the
\ngoods, the government cannot do anything about it,\" Agus said.<\/p>\n
Agus' statement was in total contrast to the statement of
\nMinister of Trade and Industry Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, who vowed
\nto find ways to curb the influx of cheap Chinese goods, saying
\nthat their presence has severely undermined local industries.<\/p>\n
Luhut said earlier this year that the government would soon
\nstart evaluating whether the importation of cheap Chinese
\nproducts was in line with the existing trade regulations. The
\ngovernment is ultimately responsible for the flood of inexpensive
\nChinese products that are sold at prices that are much lower than
\nlocal products, he added.<\/p>\n
President Director of Changhong Electronics Group Zhao Yung
\nsaid the company saw Indonesia as a great market because in the
\npast 30 years only Japanese electronic goods controlled the
\nmarket.<\/p>\n
\"From the beginning, we believe that the consumer will go for
\ngoods at cheaper prices but with similar quality. Changhong can
