        "content": "<p>China\u2019s Foreign Ministry has confirmed that a number of its citizens\nwere injured in the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck East Nusa\nTenggara (NTT) on Saturday morning (15\/8). The Chinese government,\nthrough its consular office in Denpasar, has activated an emergency\nresponse mechanism to provide protection for its nationals.<\/p>\n<p>Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian expressed deep\ncondolences over the loss of life in the disaster. \u201cAs far as I know,\nthere are several Chinese citizens who suffered injuries as a result of\nthe earthquake,\u201d Lin Jian said at a press conference in Beijing on\nMonday (17\/8).<\/p>\n<p>Based on the latest data from the National Disaster Management Agency\n(BNPB), the impact of the earthquake has been significant. BNPB chief\nLieutenant General TNI Suharyanto reported that as of Saturday at 3.00\np.m. Western Indonesia Time, 38 people had been recorded dead and around\n2,000 people affected.<\/p>\n<p>In the tourism sector, the Labuan Bajo Flores Authority (BPOLBF)\nrecorded that a number of accommodation facilities suffered damage of\nvarying degrees. The Ministry of Tourism is currently focusing on\nhandling the super-priority destination areas of Flores, Alor, Lembata\nand Bima (Floratama). A total of 986 tourists who had been stranded on\nPadar Island due to the suspension of shipping services were\nsuccessfully returned to Labuan Bajo safely after the Harbourmaster and\nPort Authority Office (KSOP) issued a notice reopening services.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding Chinese nationals, two tourists were reported injured while\nstaying at the Jayakarta Hotel and have received medical treatment at\nSiloam Labuan Bajo Hospital. All hotel guests in the affected area have\nbeen evacuated to safe points such as Natas Parapuar and the Komodo\nRegional General Hospital grounds.<\/p>\n<p>Komodo Airport operations have resumed with technical restrictions,\nwhile shipping services are being reopened gradually. Electricity and\ninternet networks in most accommodation facilities have been reported to\nhave returned to normal.<\/p>",
